Ten students at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music were chosen to take part in a vocal masterclass led by internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe on Sept. 28.

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that more than 4,000 undergraduates have qualified for the Spring 2014 Dean's List. The students represent all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, many other states and more than a dozen countries. More than half of the students are Rhode Islanders.

McDaniel College recently announced its spring 2014 Dean's List in recognition of students' academic excellence. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 average.

The State University of New York at Potsdam recognized more than 900 candidates for graduation during the College's 2014 Commencement celebrations. SUNY Potsdam honored students who either earned their degree or were eligible to graduate between December 2013 and December 2014.

Full-time students who complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester grade-point average of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail are eligible for the Dean's List.

The State University of New York at New Paltz has announced its Dean's List for the spring 2014 semester. Dean's List designation is reserved for students who excel academically and earn at least a 3.3 grade point average in a semester with a full-time course load.

More than 1800 students were named to the President's List at Hudson Valley Community College for the Spring 2014 term. Students named to the President's List earned a term grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0.

More than 30 McDaniel College students received Duke of Edinburgh silver and bronze awards for completing a four-step self-development program dedicated to achievement in community service, physical fitness, special skills and adventurous journey.

The Crane Opera Ensemble will present a pair of "angelic" one-act operas this spring, with performances on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. The award-winning Crane Opera Ensemble will perform the tragic yet lyric "Suor Angelica," with music by Giacomo Puccini, followed by the satirical and off-beat "Angelique" by Jacques Ibert.

The following local residents are among the 327 students who graduated from SUNY Oneonta following the Fall 2013 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by College President Nancy Kleniewski and held in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. They also are eligible to participate in the college's commencement on May 17.

A total of 28 student volunteers from SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business have become certified by the IRS to help families prepare simple tax forms through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Residents of Delaware and Otsego counties who earned less than $51,000 in 2013 may be eligible for this free service, which is offered through the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties.
